Kyra's 6 Years Old!
Kyra turned 6 on Wed. Feb. 17. The night of her birthday, we just celebrated quietly at home with cupcakes left over from the ones she had taken to school that day. My mom and sister, Stacy came over with a couple of presents for her. We were going to buy her steak for her birthday dinner because she loves it so much, but she only wanted macaroni and tomato sauce. It's one of her favorite foods! We waited until Friday afteroon after school got out to have her birthday party. She mostly invited kids from her kindergarten class and then her cousins and a few other close friends. We had a pretty good turnout. On Friday morning during my work hours from 2-6am, I used my break time in between my teaching sessions to make dirt cake cups. It worked out great and they were all done by the time my shift was over! She wanted to do a treasure hunt, so on Thursday night, Kaitlyn and Rylee helped create clues and then we hid them around the house for the kids to find. We then buried the treasure outside in a big pile of leaves in our backyard. At the beginning of the party, we had the kids decorate paper bags to put their treasure in. We split into teams and let the fun begin. Miranda, Kaitlyn, Rylee, and I each led a team of 3-4 kids. The hunt was a little chaotic, but I think they all had fun with it. Afterwards, we settled down to sing happy birthday and eat dirt cake. Then we opened presents and by that time, it was only 2:00pm and we still had a half an hour to kill. The boys wanted to play air hockey and the girls all went to Kyra's room and played boardgames. It was definitely reminiscient of my day care days! It was fun while it lasted, but thankful that it's over! Happy Birthday Kyra!!
